Accessibility statement

What has been built in

• Colour contrast is verified, not assumed. Every text and interface colour pairing used on this site is checked against WCAG 2.2 AA by an automated test that runs against the real stylesheet. Three colours from the original brand palette did not pass as text colours and were replaced with darker variants for anything carrying text.
• Real links and buttons. Navigation and actions are ordinary links and buttons, so they work with a keyboard, a screen reader, and browser features like open-in-new-tab.
• Visible focus. Every interactive element shows a high-contrast focus ring when you tab to it.
• Skip link. The first thing you reach with the keyboard on any page is a link that jumps past the navigation.
• Reduced motion is respected. If your device is set to reduce motion, animations and transitions are switched off.
• Text alternatives. Every photograph carries a written description. Diagrams have their information repeated in text nearby, so nothing exists only in a picture.
• Status is never colour alone. Program registration status is always spelled out in words as well as shown in colour.
• Text scales. Type sizes are fluid and the layout reflows, so zooming in does not break the page or force sideways scrolling.
• The mobile menu works without JavaScript. It is a native browser disclosure. Script only adds conveniences on top.

What has not been verified yet

This site is new. The following checks have not been completed, and we would rather say so than imply a level of testing that has not happened:

• Testing with actual screen readers: VoiceOver, NVDA, and JAWS.
• Testing by people who use this site with assistive technology day to day.
• A full keyboard-only walkthrough of every page by a second person.
• Accessibility review of downloadable resources such as PDFs and slide decks. Any resource published here states its own accessibility notes.
• Testing at 400% browser zoom on every page.

Known gaps

• Some photographs are described in more detail by their alternative text than a sighted reader might infer from the image alone. That is deliberate: where a photograph carries information, such as which components are visible or what a student is actually doing, the description says so rather than naming the subject generically.
• The organization's logo is a redrawn vector awaiting design review. It carries a text label, so it is readable by assistive technology.

Accommodations in our programs

Website accessibility and program accessibility are different things, and we care about both. If your student needs an accommodation to take part in an Eaglets program, email us before you register and we will work it out with you.

If something on this site does not work for you, we want to know, including if you are not sure whether it is a bug or just confusing.
